As we inch closer to another sweltering Tampa summer, your indoor air quality may take a hit as the humidity and heat begin to steadily increase. Before we’ve reached that point though, it’s good to have a few strategies at your disposal to fix low air quality. That’s what Acree Plumbing & Air is here to help you with!
Our team has compiled a few ways to help you and your family fix what might be inadequate IAQ at home. These methods aren’t difficult to deploy, and we’re confident that they’ll help you enjoy purer, cleaner air while you stay cool and comfortable indoors.
Wash Your Fabrics
When we imagine the things that can contaminate our air and drastically lower our indoor air quality, we might usually think of things floating in the air. It might be viruses, airborne dust or other particles. But one of the places that can contribute significantly to a decrease in IAQ is your fabrics.
Things like bedsheets, drapes and blankets carry a great deal of pollutants that can affect your IAQ, even if you don’t think they do. Skin flakes, dust and other things embed themselves in your sheets, which affect the air quality around you.
Make sure to wash these fabrics frequently and use as much hot of water as possible to ensure you kill anything like bacteria or dust mites.
Adjust the Humidity Level
Humidity. Here in Tampa, we know just how much of a problem it can be, which is why it’s so important to make sure you keep the moisture level in your home low. Too much moisture can lead to a whole host of health problems on top of just being simply uncomfortable.
- Use exhaust fans. The fans in your bathroom and kitchen are designed to remove excess moisture from the air – mostly steam – to keep your home’s air pure. Always be sure to turn them on when doing things like taking a shower or cooking something on the stove.
- Get a dehumidifier. Purchasing one of these devices is probably the easiest way to induce a drop in moisture level.
Ventilate Properly
It makes sense that you’d want to block out as much outside air as possible when it gets hot and humid. After all, you’re trying to avoid the sticky air outdoors. But by opening your windows and doors for just a few minutes early in the morning and later at night, when the temperature drops, you can help ventilate your home and improve your IAQ.
Also, be sure you replace your air filters on a regular schedule. When they’re fresh, they do a better job at screening pollutants and contaminants and will help keep your indoor air quality at a higher level.
