Opening the front door and entering into your home should be a welcome respite from the humid, soggy Tampa air we’ve all gotten very good at enduring. Ideally, you’d be greeted by a blast of crisp, clean, moisture-free air to breathe and enjoy. Unfortunately, no such luck today. The humidity levels in your home aren’t any lower than they are outside, and frankly, you’re sick of it. But, what to do about it? You can’t just magically make the humidity go away – or can you?
As it turns out, moisture levels are actually somewhat easy to lower through a handful of different means, most of which you already have access to at home! Some require simple adjustments to methods or processes you undergo all the time, while others just involve you introducing a certain element or piece of equipment into your home. Acree Plumbing, Air & Electric, Tampa’s go-to air quality experts, have a handful of simple ways you can get rid of those sky-high humidity levels.
And of course, if you don’t want to deal with all that humidity yourself and instead kick back and let someone else handle it, don’t hesitate to give us a call!
Ventilation: The Key to This Operation
When you decide to get rid of humidity, the goal is essentially to introduce a heavy dose of ventilation to your home. The airflow is what gets rid of the excess moisture, so finding ways to increase that should be paramount. Luckily, there isn’t any shortage of ways to do so.
- Open up doors and windows, which will encourage sufficient airflow throughout your home. Couple that with fans to make sure the air gets out.
- While cooking, cover your pots and pans to make sure steam doesn’t escape and start to hang out in places you can’t get rid of it.
Maintain Filter Replacement
Again, the airflow is what’s important here, and the easiest way to make sure your air circulation remains clean and clear is just to stay on top of replacing the filter regularly. It seems like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised at how many people simply forget or neglect to perform this basic task.
Adjust the AC
Some of us like to keep the switch on our AC set to “ON” all the time – and why wouldn’t we? It makes sense, right? More AC equals more air, which means less humidity. However, as counterintuitive as it might seem, switching it to “AUTO” allows the AC to drain all the moisture it’s been sucking up. By leaving the switch on “ON” all the time, the unit doesn’t have any time to get rid of everything it’s absorbed, meaning it’ll eventually spit back out all the stuff you want gone.
Shorter Showers
This one’s easy. Decrease the amount of time you spend taking a shower, and you’ll drastically reduce the amount of hot water – and therefore, steam – that wafts into your air. See? Simple! (Plus, shorter showers means you’ll spend less on the water bill as well.)
Pick a Few Plants
Some house plants are naturally great at soaking up airborne moisture. The Tillandsia, for instance, gets the water necessary for it to live from the air. It doesn’t need a root system to grow, so it’s extremely versatile! Others, like a Boston Fern, add a larger element of décor to your home in addition to serving a practical use.
